3 HVAC Maintenance Tips For Pet Owners

Many of our customers throughout Hampton Roads have four-legged family members in their homes. While pets can be bundles of joy, they also introduce a few disadvantages with regard to increased home maintenance and allergens; which can have a big impact on your home HVAC system.
To help protect your family and pets, and to preserve the effectiveness of your heating and cooling system follow these three air conditioner maintenance tips from One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning.

Schedule HVAC Maintenance Regularly

The key to ensuring your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can properly function as it should with pets in the home is professional HVAC maintenance. Our technicians follow a comprehensive 71 – Point Maintenance Checklist that ensures each component of the system functions at peak efficiency and can provide indoor comfort for our customers and their furry friends.

Change Out Air Filters Early and Often

Ensuring high-quality air for your pets is just as important as it is for your other family members, as many pets spend most of their time indoors. The more pets within an indoor setting, the more often air filters need to be changed. Dirty air filters can reduce airflow, and compromise indoor air quality (IAQ). In addition to improving indoor health and reducing energy cost, clean air filters also prevent dirt, debris, and other allergens from gathering inside the system, which prevents the need for emergency HVAC repairs. Comfort Club members receive free air filters. Learn how you can get your free air filters.

Clean Regularly to Minimize Pet Dander

Keeping in mind the health of your pet, brushing and/or bathing your pet frequently is a great way to minimize pet dander in the home. Cats and dogs shed skin flakes called dander. Dander is so lightweight that it is often airbourne and can easily be found in a lot of different spaces in your home, including your HVAC unit and air filters.

Another good practice to reduce the amount of pet dander in your home is regularly dust, mop, and vacuum. Especially rooms in which your pet spends most of their time.

If you’re not already part of our Comfort Club family, you’re missing out! For $14.99 per month, you get annual maintenance, free filters from Taylor’s Do It Center, discounts on repairs, and save big on new equipment installation. All members also benefit from front-of-the-line service.
