How Do I Tell If My Home’s Air Quality Is Bad?

Don’t think your home’s air quality is that bad?

There’s NO way! Your home’s air quality can’t be bad. Because you clean and disinfect regularly, always replace your air filter, and NEVER have issues with odors…

Unfortunately, that’s not always enough.

Prepare yourself for some truth bombs!

According to the EPA, “people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors.” Here are THREE ways to tell if your home’s air quality is not up to snuff (and some solutions to fix the issues).

Dust Buildup

We’re not talking about a little dust here and there. That’s normal, of course. But if you are consistently seeing an excessive buildup (especially around vents) it may be a sign of bad air quality in your home. Or if  you or someone in your family have allergies, symptoms can worsen too. Solution? Invest in our Fantastic Filter Program or a MicroPower Guard®. Both options are major upgrades compared to a regular air filter, because they reduce the buildup of pollen, dust mites, pet dander, and other highly-allergenic particulates. You also won’t have to dust as frequently either. Hooray!

Inconsistent Air Flow & Humidity

Are some rooms in your home more comfortable than others? That means your system’s air distribution is off and, therefore, so is your air quality. As a result, uneven temperatures and inconsistent humidity levels can lead to a number of problems including dry/itchy skin and eyes, increased respiratory issues, and even create a breeding ground for biological growth. Eww! Solution? Pending the results of a full system evaluation, we recommend installing a humidifier, adjusting thermostat settings, or even investing in a Coil Scrubber. This “Germ Killer” eliminates bacteria, organic materials, and viruses, leaving your home’s air clean and your family healthy.

Unpleasant Odors

There’s nothing like your own brand. Right? Not exactly. Because we adapt to smells quickly, you may not notice if there’s an odd odor lingering throughout your home. And nothing’s worse than having to tell someone else their home’s air quality is bad because it stinks. It can be caused by a number of things, including pets, pests, smoke, food, teenagers, chemicals, and even dust. Candles and air fresheners aren’t a great long-term fix because they only mask the smell. Solution? To truly control odors and circulate “smell-fresh” air, we recommend an Air Scrubber®. It uses the power of UV light to create O3 oxygen scrubbers, much like our atmosphere.

On a more serious note, if you or any of your family members frequently experiences congestion, sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, headache, and frequent nosebleeds INSIDE YOUR HOME, pay attention! Know that although your home’s air quality being bad may not be the sole cause, it may seriously affect the severity of these symptoms. Some of the solutions we mention above help alleviate those symptoms and turn your home into a comfort wonderland.
